Wimmis
is a charming village of the Bernese Oberland with many wooden houses
which date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. At a romantic place
above the village are the majestic castle , the church and the parsonage
forming a trio picturesque well contrasting to the three mountains:
Niesen, Burgfluh, Simmenfluh. The mountains are covered with wonderful
fir-woods which influence the healthy prea;pine climate. It is mixed
with that mild one of the region of the lovely Lake of Thun. The
name of Wimmis itself gives a hint at the sunny climate: in Roman
times it was " Aid Vindemias " which means " at the
vineyards". Those ones were at the very sunny hill of Wimmis,
the " Pintel "
At an altitude of 2089 feet the village lies within an amphitheatre
of three very different mountains: You will have excellent possibilities
to walk on well-maked hiking trails along the feet of these mountains.
