Höllentalklamm
(closed in winter)
Starting point : Obergrainau square at the Hotel Post or from
Hammersbach
(1 1/2 - 2 hours).
Romantically Gorge (Entrance fee), about 1 km long, with the
wild river called Hammersbach (we recommend rain coat). Through
rock tunnels (lighted) following a small path with ladders, you
will reach the end of the gorge after 15 min. (1193 m. high).
It's worth to follow the path up to the Höllentalangerhütte
You will have a nice view on the peaks of the Waxensteine,
Riffelwände and the Zugspitze (2964 m). Follow the way to
the Höllentalklamm passing by the mountain restaurant
Neuneralm or Hotel Post. Starting from Hammersbach the track is
a bit steeper. In winter the gorge is closed (danger of
avalanges). |

Panoramic
Walking Track Eibsee/Höllentalklamm
Starting point : Obergrainau square at the Hotel Post or from
the lake Eibsee
(2 hours). Way of track: to the Neuneralm from
there you will reach the panoramic track in about 30 min. If you
turn right you will come to the Eibsee, turn left and you get to
the Höllentalklamm. The lake and the gorge are located at
the same height. Getting closer to the Eibsee you have to cross
the track of the coq wheel train to the Zugspitze. The first
part of the track is a wider, later it's only a walking track. |

Höllentalklamm

Description
: To reach
the Panoramic Walking Track see description above.
Once you get to the track follow the marks EH to the left.
Almost without descent through forest you will reach a wider
track. Soon you leave that track and carry on the foot path.
Shortly you will hear the sound of the river Hammersbach and get
to the rocks of the Waxenstein. A couple of minutes later you
will reach the entrance to the gorge (1047 m). There is a little
hut where you can buy drinks and food. To go back to Hammersbach
follow the marks H1 (about 1 hour). |

Hammerbach - Höllentalklamm
From Hammersbach to the Höllentalklamm

Description
: We start
with the path H1 right at the bridge of the river Hammersbach.
After a couple of turns and a steeper descent, the path gets
almost flat again. Later you will reach a more descent part
follow the way up in turns. Situated at the entrance of the
gorge you reach a hut. From there you can walk through the gorge
- see following description. Backwards you can take a commode
panoramic walking track. Follow the path EH underneath the hut
to the left. Through shady forest you reach a wider track and
follow it. to the left you cross over to the panoramic walking
track (EH), follow it until you get to the turn Neuneralm (G6),
where you turn right and reach Grainau in about 20 minutes. |

Höllentalklamm
- Höllenralangerhütte
Walking time : 1,5 hours

Description
: To get to
the entrance of the gorge see description above. A couple of
steps behind the hut you start into a little tunnel of the gorge
(entrance fee). The gorge is about 1 km long. You pass through
the gorge following the tunnel, various steps, along tows and
rock formations. Underneath the wild river, called Hammersbach.
Usually there will be last parts of snow until late summer,
avalanges of the winter. If you look up in the middle of the
gorge you will see an iron bridge, constructed 1888. It's 73 m
above the gorge and is a part of the upper path. You will reach
the end of the gorge and an altitude of 1193m. The valley of the
Höllental gets wider and you follow the track up to the
mountain lodge Höllentalangerhütte, where you can buy
drinks and food or stay overnight. You will have a great view to
the mountains Waxenstein, Riffelwände and to the Zugspitze
(the highest mountain of Germany, 2964m). On the way back you
can take the same track or if you are an experienced hiker you
can take the upper way, crossing the iron bridge and the path
called Stangensteig (marks H3). |
